Shot Descriptions - standard or add-on for PBCore?
Anyone have a recommended standard for describing the shots themselves (within the programs)? I use PBCore to describe content, but need to describe it in better and exhaustive detail (i.e. wide shot, exterior, night.) Does PBCore allow for this, is there a controlled vocabulary in place (or available from another source that you can recommend) to describe footage in this way?
Thanks for the help.

Hi Jeff,
I think best practice would be to create a separate PBCore record for the shot itself. Then you would relate the shot to the program using the pbcoreRelation container. The shot “Is Part Of” the program, and the program “Has Part” in the shot.
Yes, that could be lots of work, but it gets you a truly detailed catalog of programs and the shots within them. And you can really make those shots findable. The question for me is, where do you draw the line? Do we need to catalog every frame? Probably not, so it’s a judgement call as to which and how many shots you describe in PBCore. If it’s a shot of someone stepping onto the moon for the first time, or an Illinois governor getting arrested, I’d say the answer is pretty clear.

A lighter-weight option would be to create a separate description element (perhaps with type=“Clip”, or a custom type?) for each shot. If you don’t otherwise need to catalog each shot individually, this might be easier to implement.
